Thoughts in the Dark

Posted on Monday, November 10, 2008 in Other, Writing

It’s at night they come, the thoughts I’d rather not have. They whirl around in my mind, so in the end I can’t sleep, no matter how tired I am. It feels as if it’s never been darker, in my room and in my life. Worse, it feels as if it can only get darker and darker, not only because the autumn equinox has passed, but because it feels as if any chances I might have had, have come and gone without me being aware of it, and in any case I missed them.

‘How could you fail at…’

‘If you’d been any better at…, you would have…’

‘What guy would want a girl like you?’

‘Things keep getting worse and worse.’

‘What’s going to happen to…’

‘Everyone else has already…’

That’s how it sounds in my mind, night after night, until daylight comes through the window or I can’t take it anymore and I get up and turn on the light, until I sit down at my computer, or just starts doing anything, whatever, to silence the questions and accusations in my head. Then everything goes quiet, in the light, and maybe, if I get tired enough, in the dark.

Release party

Posted on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in Writing

Tonight I went to the ‘release party’ for our book – the book we, the participants of the writing course – have published. It was quite fun, and I think the guests enjoyed it. The only problem was that we had practically no books to sell. Somehow they’ve been lost in transit – somewhere between Uppsala and Stockholm and Göteborg…

“My” book

Posted on Friday, October 17, 2008 in Writing

Today, I saw ‘my’ book ‘live’ for the first time. Well, I’d already seen a copy in real life. We had a chance to edit it before the real edition went into print. But now it’s actually available in bookstores. Yay. Ok, it’s not really my book. It’s a book where I’ve contributed two stories and poem. But at least it’s the first time I’ve had anything published on paper.

Weird slash

Posted on Monday, September 15, 2008 in Fandom, Writing

For some reason I got it into my head to wonder what’s the strangest slash (not grossest), but most unusual slash you’ve read. In my case, I think it’s a piece of original fiction by Selma Lagerlof (famous Swedish Nobel prize winning author). She would most likely have been astonished to hear her story described as slash, and she’d probably need an explanation of the term, but I get definite slash vibes from this one. A bit of BDSM too…

Her story is about two rivers who compete as they rush towards the sea, but eventually one submits to the other and they become one. LOL. Sounds a bit slashy, right?

I’m sure this isn’t the weirdest slash story that’s out there, but it’s what springs to mind right now (late, late at night, or very early in the morning, whichever way you’d like to see it).

Original stories

Posted on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in Writing

I still haven’t worked on my novel, but I did get ideas for two original stories. At first I thought I was going to be able to start writing right away, the same night. The night, after all, is my favorite time for writing.

But no such luck. Still, I have worked out most of the things that will go into the stories. Plot, characters etc. I guess I just have cold feet. After writing a couple of stories I’ve been happy with, I’m afraid of making a mess of these.

The same is true for my novel, but even more so.

Oh, well. Writing is fun, but reading is necessary too. Fortunately, I have a couple of books I can read.

No inspiration

Posted on Monday, August 25, 2008 in Writing

Suddenly, I lost my inspiration to write. I think I can guess why. Lately I’ve had mood swings. Some nights, I almost cry. In between I feel perfectly ok. Oh, well. Blogging and writing fan fiction can wait. The real problem is that I still haven’t been able to finish my novel, but nothing’s really changed there, so that’s a different problem.

Of course, in the meantime, I still have a couple of other finished books that I’ll submit to a publisher. As long as I can stay cheerful and I’m doing my best with that. Going for walks, even on little outings, looking for cool things to photograph, watching movies, even once or twice a week a tv show I actually like.

Though as far as tv is concerned, this is probably the worst time in a long time. Right now, as far as I know, there’s just one thing worth watching. Don’t get me wrong. I’d complain just as much if there was one or more shows per night, but this is going a little too far in the other direction. No wait, I think Heroes will be back. In that case, I can’t complain.

Writing fan fiction again

Posted on Thursday, July 31, 2008 in Writing

I thought I was done with fan fiction – at least for a while – but I got inspired again and that was that. Though in the past couple of days I’ve been too tired to finish my last fan fic in the new fandom. Hopefully, I’ll feel up to it again soon.

I haven’t even blogged that much lately, so it’s great to be writing again. Hopefully it won’t be long before I’ve recharged my creative batteries so I can finish my novel.

Erotic writing…?

Posted on Monday, June 23, 2008 in Writing

I just found out that someone from a radio station had left a comment on one of my blogs, asking me to participate in a radio show about erotic writing. Sure, I write some stories that contain some sex, but that’s not my main goal.

I missed my chance, because that stupid site doesn’t send notifications about blog comments. At first I was really disappointed, but then I thought – is that my only chance to get noticed?

The last time someone wanted me to talk about fan fiction/slash I was ruled out because I wasn’t a teenager and because I live too far away from the paper’s readers. Before that, I was interviewed on tv, but it wasn’t because of my writing, it was because of my association with slash. Fair enough. I was happy to provide info about that, since it’s one of my favorite genres.

But – I don’t write very erotic stories. What little sex there is in my writing, can’t be described as ‘erotic’. At least I don’t think so. I want to be noticed because I write interesting, entertaining stories. Because I’m a good writer.

On the other hand, I don’t want to stop writing what I do. I have reasons for every choice I make in the plot and characterization. Besides, if I gave up writing stories with any kind of sexual content, then apparently, no one would bother about me and my writing.

It feels frustrating. I’m never going to be a good erotic writer. That’s not my thing. And clearly, I’m not getting noticed for my writing either. Oh, well, that’s just typical.

New story

Posted on Sunday, June 22, 2008 in Writing

Late last night, I finished an original story I’d been working on. Actually, I finished the translation so now it’s in both languages. It turned out well, I think, but then I guess I’m partial. LOL

Some do it in bed

Posted on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in Writing

I started thinking about where I write. The answer is, in bed. I might write at a desk – if I had a study of my own, away from others. At the moment, I’m sharing a house with my mom and my sister and unless I decided to write all night and sleep all day, I wouldn’t get any peace.

Actually, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to write in bed. Many published writers I know of, do this. I think it’s really common. But everyone’s different. Some people prefer to sit at a desk or other table. I guess some like sitting outdoors at a café or somewhere else public.

Of course, a laptop (or in my case an iBook) is really a necessity if you want to write in bed. Once you have that all you need is an electric outlet and you’re set to go. Unless you have a rabbit who likes to chew on wires. If you do, I suggest you keep a constant eye on the cable and/or the rabbit. LOL. Be warned, as you might or might not know, some puppies and cats also like to chew on stuff, sometimes wires, so watch out.

Another thing – I prefer to write quite late in the evening or at night. First of all I’m an evening person/night owl. I feel more alert and creative later in the day. It’s also more peaceful around the house and probably, unless you live in a major city, your neigbhorhood too.

Where do you like to write? And at what time?
