What is a vegan?

Posted on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 in Other

To me, who’s been vegan for several years now, veganism is something so natural and self-explanatory, I hardly even think about it. However, I’ve realized that many people simply don’t have a clue what it is. (And many of those who do, really don’t care, but that’s another story.)

So, just in case anyone’s wondering – What is a vegan?

And, here‘s the answer. (One definition, at least.)

The nine intelligences

Posted on Monday, August 31, 2009 in Other

I just read an article about the nine types of intelligence. Just as I’ve always suspected, I belong to the linguistic type, which is all very well in itself. Maybe I’m being unreasonable, but I was kind of hoping I’d have a little of at least one of the others, but it doesn’t look that way, never has. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. Linguistic intelligence suits me fine. It was just that I was thinking that maybe – Oh, well. You can’t have everything. I’ve know a number of people who didn’t seem to have even one of those intelligences, so why am I whining about it?

Porn for feminists? -again.

Posted on Friday, August 28, 2009 in Other

I just read another article about ‘feminist’ porn. What all these people are missing is that after all these years, the female is still an object. As far as they’re concerned it’s like the past thirty years or more never happened. For them porn still equals naked women. I don’t mean lesbians. I think it’s perfectly cool that lesbians make lesbian porn for lesbians. What I’m referring to are the so called straight feminists who claim that their movies with naked women are good porn.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. For me, it means naked guys. That kind of gay porn means hot guys having fun together, not ugly old men having sex with and degrading women. The naked (young) male body is attractive. Females are just soft and saggy. How can that be sexy?

Well, to each their own, but I really think that if you want to call yourself a feminist, why not leave the female body alone? Hands off our bodies.

What color are you?

Posted on Sunday, August 23, 2009 in Other

Interesting article about color preferences.

As usual, I’m an outsider. I’d say I’m mainly BlueGreen, with quite a bit of Red (I’m a closet Red LOL) and a touch of Yellow (in the last two or three years). There’s also a little bit of Grey, I’m afraid.

A psychologist will be able to make something of this, I’m sure. Not sure I’d like to know what that is though. 🙂

Gay Sherlock Holmes could backfire for Guy Ritchie?

Posted on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in Fandom, Other

At least according to this article.

Why? What’s not to like about that? Ok, to be honest, I’m rather picky and I could wish for some other actors (other than Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law), but slash is always nice. It can brighten a dark day.

Way up there

Posted on Monday, August 3, 2009 in Fandom, Other

The other day, I watched the last episode but one of the UK tv series Being Human. As I tend to do, I’ve fallen hopelessly in love with one of the main characters, but considering the fact that he’s a vampire, this time it’s more the actor I’m attracted to. There he is, the latest in a long line of celebrity guys I fall for. I fall for them, but I can never hope to even exist in the same world as they do. Jonathan Bennett, Alexander Rybak and now Aidan Turner, are just a few of all those guys.

And then it hit me. They are all way beyond my league. Don’t get me wrong, of course these actors and singers are, and that’s not quite what I meant. I always imagine that type of guy, in real life, closer to me, and on a few occasions, I find that yes, that type of guy would be just within my reach, if I’m lucky. But not most of them. They’re way above and beyond me. It’s a discouraging thought. I don’t mean that they have different interests or even that they are clearly far more outgoing and successful than I am. There’s more to it than that. Guys like that – again, I mean good looking, charming, interesting guys, even outside of show business – would pass me by, without even taking a second look.

I don’t know where I’m going with this, but it made me a little sad. They won’t even give me a chance. The ones I do meet, are usually either not interested in me or I’m not interested in them. If there’s more to it than that, well, when we go our separate ways, I’ll bet there aren’t a long line of women waiting to snatch those guys up. So I guess we’re the B team, if there are even enough letters in the alphabet for people like us.

That’s not quite how I imagined my life would be, when I was fifteen or sixteen, but I guess that’s just how it is.

Another Swedish mystery writer

Posted on Saturday, August 1, 2009 in Other

I suppose I might mention Anna Jansson too. A few years ago, I read some of her books and thought they were quite ok, but at the time, I was busily devouring other, more interesting books – Barbara Nadel’s mysteries and Eliot Pattison’s among others – so I wasn’t particularly impressed. This summer I got my hands on a few other books by her and either she’s improved or I’m in a different mood right now. Last year one of her mysteries was turned into a tv series, which I quite liked.

Anna Jansson is a nurse who turned to writing mysteries. Her books are set on the island of Gotland. The setting is one reason I find these books so interesting. Gotland is a very special place, with a fascinating history. Her heroine is female cop Maria Wern. She seems quite intelligent, but not particularly tough, not like the tv version, played by Eva Röse, who is an excellent Swedish actress. In a few of the books, there’s a medical theme, which seems appropriate.

The hetero norm

Posted on Monday, July 27, 2009 in Other

Since Stockholm Pride starts today, I note that the hetero norm is being evaluated. That’s a good idea, but I’d also like to point out that just because you’re heterosexual doesn’t mean that you fit into any norms. You can be different anyway. Sexual preference isn’t the only factor influencing your personality.
