I’m interested in woodwork, tablet weaving, weaving, lace making, paper making, dream boxes and especially bookbinding. What I do mostly, these days, is bookbinding. I also make dream boxes. You might wonder what a dream box is. It’s simply a box made from paper. Boxes and bookcases made from paper are actually very durable. You can even stand on a box. Yes. It won’t break. I was amazed when I saw that the first time. I’m a member of a bookbinding group here in my town (we also make boxes).

Weaving bands with tablets (or cards) is a very old method. It makes strong, unelastic woven bands, that can be used as straps, belts, trim and so on. In the old days, you would trim sails with ribbons, use them for reins and much more.

The only tools you need are tablets and a small yarn needle. These days, the tablets are mostly made from plastic, cardboard, or light wood. Most tablets are square and have four holes, one in each corner.

Tablets and woven bands have been found in tombs, as offerings for the dead, for instance in the Oseberg ship in Olso, and in ancient royal tombs in Egypt. On the warship Vasa, which sank on its first trip in 1628 ( in Stockholm) woven bands have been found.
