Plamil ‘milk’ chocolate: where we do some of our shopping, it’s available in two flavours, mint and ‘plain’. We prefer the plain. It’s simply lovely. This is a very tasty ‘milk’ chocolate. It has a very ‘chocolate-y” taste, without being too strong.

Vego – vegan chocolate
VEGO – big chocolate bar with nuts. It’s very tasty, with a strong (but not too strong) taste. The nuts only makes the whole thing even better. If, like us, you like a really big bar, this one’s absolutely great.
Does Your Dog Actually Understand You When You Speak?
Victoria Ratcliffe, a graduate student at the University of Sussex in England, set up an experiment to demonstrate that dogs do in fact pay attention to the meanings of words, and not just to the tone in which they are delivered. She’s discovered that dogs process that information in a different part of the brain from where they process emotional cues in speech.

How to Help Animals Hit By Cars
You’ve passed by this gruesome scene a hundred times: a lifeless body of an animal lying on the side of the road after being hit by a car. You shake your head sadly as you drive by, thinking that the animal was surely killed in the collision.
But how do you know for sure that the raccoon, deer, cat, or dog on the side of the road isn’t just lying there—still alive and suffering—unable to move because of his or her injuries?

We found a cat like this. The only reason we knew she was alive was the way the headlights from our car reflected in her open eyes. My sister went outside to make sure and found the cat alive and only slightly injured, just dazed from the shock of the impact – most likely with the road surface (we think someone dumped her from a moving car).
We took her home with us and then to a vet. She wasn’t really injured; she’d just broken a tooth, and apparently she’d recently had kittens. We never found out what had happened to the kittens, but clearly the family who owned her didn’t want her anymore. Despite that, we did keep an eye on Missing Cat ads for several weeks. Not surprisingly, no one showed up to claim her. She remained with us for the rest of her life and became dad’s baby.
Should We All Become Vegans to Stave Off Climate Change?
If you have even an iota of an environmental conscience, the issue of global warming no doubt crosses your mind every time you, say, fill up your gas tank or get on an airplane. But what about when you order a cheeseburger?

My answer is YES! I can’t believe that people are still unsure about that. Some will ignore the evidence, but really, doesn’t everyone know that by now?

Thoughts about Care2
I’m getting a little tired of Care2 posting old articles (‘favorites’) time and again. It would be better if they collected all these old favorites in an Archive and anyone who would like to read older posts again, could just click the Archive link.
I also miss the Share function and, as I’ve mentioned before, the Photo Albums. It was a real shame that Care2 didn’t at least warn us beforehand, so we could have backed up our photos. With all kinds of other sites letting me down, I had grown used to at least being able to rely on Care2.
Care2 is great in many ways, but it’s not nearly as social as it used to be and I for one, miss that a lot. I felt at home there. Now I feel pretty lonely, despite knowing that there are others who keep fighting for the animals and the environment.
Compassionate Canine Companions
Upon discovering the horrors of factory farming, it’s only natural to want to remove one’s support from such cruelty, starting with ceasing the consumption of animal products in one’s own diet.
After a while, it makes sense to wonder if there’s more we can (and should) be doing to minimize our contribution to animal suffering. For example, what are we feeding the family dog(s)?
