Writing teaches writing…
“What is the best way to write? Each of us has to discover her own way by writing. Writing teaches writing. No one can tell you your own secret.”
– Gail Sher

Successful writers…
“Successful writers are not the ones who write the best sentences. They are the ones who keep writing. They are the ones who discover what is most important and strangest and most pleasurable in themselves, and keep believing in the value of their work, despite the difficulties.”
– Bonnie Friedman

These women make some interesting points. It’s nice to know that there are other fan fiction writers who are no longer in their teens and who stay with their fandoms over many years.
Write about what you care about…
“The golden rule of writing is to write what you care about. If you care about your topic, you’ll do your best writing, and then you stand the best chance of really touching a reader in some way.”
– Jerry Spinelli

WordPress again
In my last post, I mentioned my two new wordpress blogs. I might as well describe them in a bit more detail, since I intend to keep them closely connected to this blog.
One of them is mainly about veganism and animal rights but also animals, plants, gardening, nature human rights and more. I call that VeganLynx. The other contains quotes, images and links to articles about writing, books, fandom, history, languages and more. It’s called Crimson Corundum.
The difference between those two and this one (and my other homepages/blogs) is that on this one, I write original blog posts. On the two new ones I share things I find on the internet.
I write like…
I tried this Analyze your writing thing and it turns out I write like Cory Doctorow when I blog and when I write SF.

I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!
Not that I’ve read anything by him yet – but as far as I can tell, that’s quite a compliment. I also tried it with some of my other writing and when it comes to my fantasy, apparently I write like Ursula LeGuin, a really big honor (if you can put any stock in this test, that is…).
Ursula K. Le Guin
I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!
Unfortunately, when I tried to analyze my fan fiction the test seemed to have a breakdown and suggested I write like so many different authors, I began to realize that either that test isn’t all that great or I write really crazy fan fiction…
The writer’s course
Last night was the first time in our writing course. It was ok, quite fun, though not like the last one. I had worried a lot about the first exercise, but I shouldn’t have. (We were supposed to bring a printout from a book that had influenced us in some way. I’ve been reading since I was three and writing for almost that long, so practically everything I’ve read has influenced me.) That went ok too.
What wasn’t quite as much fun was the fact that out of a possible fifteen people (from the last course), only six had signed up and just four actually came. We don’t know what happened to the other two. Oh, well, I never expect much from this town.
Our efforts to start a writer’s group have failed. Only one person outside our family had shown any interest. No one has the time, or the inclination to join a writer’s group. :/
