A concert in Hypergrid
Tonight I went to a concert in Metropolis (Hypergrid). It had been ages since I last went to a concert or other event in a 3D world and back then it was usually in Second Life. The guy who had the concert is called Russell Eponym and he usually performs in InWorldz, Second Life and Third Rock Grid (where I’ve never been). It was nice. It brought back memories from when I used to dance for money in Second Life. Long story. LOL. I’ll probably be back next time he performs in Metro. I’m also going to search for other events in Second Life and in Hypergrid capable worlds.
Ten Characters I’d Want On a Desert Island With Me
I found this meme here and I thought I’d try to do it too. It won’t look as pretty here, but I’d like to have a go anyway.
Gandalf (Lord of the Rings, J R R Tolkien) – it’s good to be prepared for all eventualities
Sabriel (Abhorsen series, Garth Nix) – see above
Tigger (Winnie the Pooh, A A Milne) – someone to hug
Howl (Howl’s Moving Castle, Diana Wynne Jones) – again, it’s good to be prepared
Ged/Sparrowhawk (A Wizard of Earthsea, Ursula K LeGuin) – see above again
Bix (Dinotopia, James Gurney) – because I think Bix would be nice company
Serafina Florio (Serafina Florio mysteries, Susan Russo Anderson) – in case I went into labour or there was a murder to solve
Diverus (Shadowbridge and Lord Tophet, Gregory Frost) – some music would be great
Percy, The Scarlet Pimpernel (The Scarlet Pimpernel, Emmuska (Baroness) Orczy) – this guy is probably prepared for all eventualities and probably hot too, as well as well behaved and chivalrous, so nice company
Tristan Farnon (All Creatures Great and Small, James Herriot) – cute guy, who can take care of my four-legged kids, if they were there with me
A visit to the dentist and unexpected kindness
Today, it was time for the dreaded visit to the dentist. As it turned out, I could have saved myself some worrying. I was really lucky. The tooth didn’t hurt at all and I didn’t need any painkiller. Now I have a functioning tooth again and can eat normally. It’s such a relief.
Later when I was standing in the checkout line at the supermarket, I was holding just one loaf of bread, behind two huge shopping carts filled with all kinds of food. The woman in front of my turned to look at me and asked me if that was all I had. I said yes and she said that I could get ahead of her. “It’s rubbish waiting in line after people with so much stuff”, she said. That was really kind of her. The guy behind the cash register had already grabbed some of her items but he had heard our conversation and asked what was going on. Fortunately, he hadn’t started on her stuff yet, so I could still get my loaf processed and paid for ahead of the nice lady behind me.
That was not how I expected this day to turn out. 🙂 Sometimes it’s nice to be wrong.
Squee!
I just have to squee a little about Libib. When Amazon bought Goodreads I started looking around for alternatives (just in case – I’m still on GR, but hanging out more on Booklikes and now Libib). One of the similar book sites I found was Libib. So I imported all my Goodreads books and that was that. I thought, why publish my books? But today I received an email from them, saying they’d added new social network features and I decided to check it out. I also published my books. What a nice looking bookshelf! I don’t know about the social network features though, since I don’t have any friends, but hopefully I’ll find some soon.
Another squee: I was adding two recent books to my Libib book shelf so I needed to know the ISBN number and went to Amazon and checked. They suggested a number of other similar cosy mysteries and I found so many new books I wanted. I had to add them to my wish list. It will be years before I reach the bottom of that list now. 🙂
Book meme
I found this book/reading meme on WordPress.com and I thought I’d try it here.
You just answer these three questions on your own blog:
What are you reading right now? K D Nelson Folds of the Script – a science fiction novel from Amazon on my Kindle.
What did you just finish reading? Lady of the Moon by Mary Gillgannon (from Smashwords).
What do you think you’re going to read next? A Swedish children’s book by author Ingelin Angerborn (“Heart of Dust”)
Wattpad
I’m going to try and post some fanfics (and original fics in Swedish) on Wattpad. I’ll see how that works out. I thought it might be fun. Does anyone have experience of publishing stuff there?
A literary woman…
Henrietta was a literary woman, and the great advantage of being a literary woman was that you could go everywhere and do everything.
Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady
Magic times…
Happy Midsummer and Summer Solstice, everyone!
Bonds of Fire
The novella Bonds of Fire by Sophie Duncan, is yet another of my recently read ebooks, that I really liked. First a warning: this is a slash story. If you don’t like m/m romance, don’t read it.
This is still a free download on Amazon and Smashwords so if it sounds like fun, go ahead and get it.
The main character, Drekken, is a dragon warrior. He’s bonded to his dragon, Miri. Unfortunately, after a battle, Drekken is separated from his squadron and Miri and is forced to babysit a group of baby dragons. He’s also faced with a growing attraction for one of the two young men who are in charge of the dragon babies. What complicates things is that the two young guys are already in love with each other.
As I said above, I really enjoyed this story. Especially the dragons. And the slash. 😉 I also liked the way Drekken felt torn between wanting to rejoin his squadron and Miri, and on the other hand, his responsibility to keep the babies safe. The baby dragons are unbelievably cute and the two young guys are unbelievably hot (and so, apparently, is Drekken).
What’s not to like?
