The 1990's

Savage Garden, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, Ronan Keating, Enrique Iglesias, Eagle Eye Cherry, Niclas Strömstedt, Andreas Johnson, Emilia, Jessica Folker, Clannad, Enya, Crowded House, Roxette, Weeping Willows, Magnus Uggla, Meja, Martin Stenmarck, (BeeGees), U2, Cranberries, Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams. There are quite a few performers from the 90’s too, but they and their hit songs aren’t as many as those of the 80’s.

The hair got shorter for both guys and girls. Various waves of nostalgia came and went. Other decades provided the themes for fashion. Was there anything really typical of the 90’s? I’m not much of an expert, so I can’t tell.

There were protests again. There was also a sort of general anti-wave. Drugs are more popular than ever – again and that seems to have started in the 90’s. Even the hippie fashion came back for a while. The cold war ended early in the 90’s.

There were plenty of movies, with all kinds of special effects, but also other,  ‘dark’ movies. Try watching the tv series Will and Grace. The X files, too, is quite typical of the 90’s (think David Duchovny and Armani…). Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves were, and are some of the sexiest actors. There was a fin de siècle atmosphere, which could be seen in movies like Strange Days, Dark City, Twelve Monkeys, Gattaca and The Matrix . The future was seen as dark and threatening. That’s hardly wrong, is it?
