The 1960's

1960's

My favorite 60’s bands are The Beatles and The Monkees. Again there was some rivalry between different groups of fans, this time between Beatles and Rolling Stones fans.

Wearing short skirts was popular among the girls. Men wore some pretty odd clothes, at least when you look at them with modern eyes. Jeans became popular among the girls, but they also tended to wear weird pants made of even weirder materials.

Rock music was still popular, but also something called pop music which I suppose means popular music. Towards the end of the 60’s, kids rebelled against society and the older generation, and there were widespread protests about all kinds of things, including the Vietnam war.

Guys had long hair (though not really what we today would call long). The 1960’s became known as the hippie era, though that continued on into the 1970’s. Woodstock and Isle of Wight became famous for the music festivals there. People lived together in large groups and just like today, young people glorified drugs.

The movie (and musical) Hair shows how the 1960’s looked in the US – I’d rather not even think about what the Swedish movies were like. Gregory Peck was still hot. We still had Hasse Ekman, Håkan Westergren, Stig Järrel, Sigge Fürst and Gunnar Björnstrand.
