“You’re never alone when you’re reading a book.”

A very fitting quote…

“Oh! I am delighted with the book! I should like to spend my whole life in reading it.”

Jane Austen (Northanger Abbey)

Stephanie Plum…

Posted on Friday, October 11, 2013 in My life

I’m feeling really depressed right now, but fortunately I have a Stephanie Plum ‘mystery’ to turn to. That’s about the only thing that can get me in a good mood at the worst of times. Thank you, Janet Evanovich for distracting me from my troubles!

Simple meme

Posted on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in Other

Here’s a simple Meme…answer the following questions:

1. What Book Are You Reading Now?
2. Why did you choose it?
3. What’s the best thing about it?
4. What’s the worst thing about it?

Here are my answers:

1. History of Sweden, part 2
2. I’m very interested in history and when a new series of books – there will be eight eventually – I just felt I had to have all of them.
3. It’s a well written book, about a subject I find interesting.
4. This part as well as the first one deals with matters that I find extremely distressing – war, hunting/killing, cannibalism, sacrifices. It seems for greater part of our history – and that goes for World History too – anyone smaller and/or weaker was considered prey, meaning anyone – animal, child, woman, man.

This is the book, the one with two of my stories and one of my poems:

Will edit my book

Posted on Sunday, March 1, 2009 in Writing

Last night I actually had a pretty detailed and clear dream. In that dream, I had the idea that I should edit the book I’m going to submit to a publisher this spring. The first chapter might hook the reader a bit more than it does in its present form, so I’ll try to think of something more exciting. Maybe that will help. In any case, I want to make the book as good as it can be.

They’re here!

Posted on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in Writing

The books have been found. Finally! As of yesterday, we have our own copies, well, sort of…

Mom had promised to get a copy for a friend of hers and since she only gets to meet her about once a year these days and that one time is today, we had to give her one of ours, but basically this is it. The first time we get to read our own stories (and a couple of poems) in print.

Strangely enough, it doesn’t feel very magical. Maybe it hasn’t sunk in yet, or maybe it will take more to get that kind of reaction. Like an entire book written by me. That might happen some day. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂

Abhorsen

Posted on Thursday, October 23, 2008 in Books, Fantasy, Reviews, Young Adult Books

Abhorsen is the last book in the trilogy about Sabriel. There isn’t that much more to say about this book. It continues the struggle against the powers of evil. Sabriel’s son finds out his true calling. He was the Abhorsen-in-training but is that really right for him?

In this book Lirael returns and so does the Disreputable Dog. She does what she does best – being ‘Disreputable’. Even when there’s a price to pay, she finds a way of – circumventing it, or close enough.

You’ll meet more ‘living’ dead and what’s even more frightening – a human who’s been contaminated by the evil. He’s good, but something inside him isn’t and there isn’t much hope for him. It’s obvious from the start that his journey can only end in tragedy. Unless his friends, Lirael and Sabriel’s family, can do something to save him.

At the end of the book I’m still satisfied with the story and the characters, so I can recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy with a difference. In fact, this trilogy can be counted among my favorite fantasy reads ever.

“My” book

Posted on Friday, October 17, 2008 in Writing

Today, I saw ‘my’ book ‘live’ for the first time. Well, I’d already seen a copy in real life. We had a chance to edit it before the real edition went into print. But now it’s actually available in bookstores. Yay. Ok, it’s not really my book. It’s a book where I’ve contributed two stories and poem. But at least it’s the first time I’ve had anything published on paper.
